Template for Your Proposed Law
Laws often follow a traditional form or structure. You will notice a numbering system and paragraphs. By putting your suggested law in a traditional structure, it will get it closer to a final form. Please note, each jurisdiction has a particular way of writing a law to match what is already in place. The City / County Attorney and the City / County Clerks can assist you in polishing your proposed law to include the proper form and legal wording it will need.
Putting the law in this structure will help the legislators in your area by giving them a starting point. Please be aware, this is a worksheet, not a finalized format. Each type of law and jurisdiction has their own parameters. If possible, ask someone in you local legal system to help you review what you have written. For example, in many municipal governments, there is a lawyer paid by tax dollars to be the City Attorney. In larger cities there is often a City Council Attorney.
We hope to offer a template in the future. This is all volunteer so the project is as hours permit.
