3-3-3 Advocacy Method

The 3-3-3 Advocacy Method is for when you want to see something changed. There are examples listed below:

First 3 - What are the 3 talking points or issues?
Second 3 - What are 3 actions that can be taken to help solve those issues?
Third 3 - What needs to be followed up on?
I'll give two examples -
TOPIC: Seniors felt unsafe in their own homes

POINTS:
1. They are afraid of being a victim of crime
2. They have questions for the local police about crime
3. They need assistance making changes

ACTION:
1. Call a meeting to discuss problems and solutions (over 40 came)
2. The local Police Chiefs came to the meeting to address their questions
3. They were given a 2 page checklist on ways they could make their homes more secure. If they are unable to make the changes themselves, they can contact Real Services for assistance.

FOLLOW-UP:
1. Thank yous were sent to the speakers for coming
2. Additional checklists were made available
3. I presented the checklist to the City Council and asked for it to be included in the water bill so more people could benefit

TOPIC: Family was in crisis when their son was shot

POINTS:
1. Being out-of-town, they needed assistance on getting resources
2. They wanted a special way to honor him
3. They wanted good to somehow come out of this tragedy

ACTION:
1. Contacted Mama's Against Violence and they reached out and came to the Viewing. They will be an ongoing resource and support for his mother locally.
2. Contacted On Site Prayer Ministries for a Vigil to honor him and console his family
3. Contacted Hospice for Special Bereavement Services for the children in the home.

FOLLOW-UP:
1. Attended the Viewing, Funeral and On Site Vigil and asked that someone video stream it so the family out of the area would be included. I also went to the neighborhood meeting after the Vigil to answer questions they had and listen for ways to make changes. I invited the media and passed out an item to remind people to do a Random Act of Kindness.
2. Spoke before the City Council and Gang Task Force with ways things could be better. Example, making sure key organizations have the list of 72 Social Agencies we have in the area.
3. Sending thank yous to all those who assisted.
I find this is effective for me and it's how I approach social problems. I rarely will stand on a corner and protest. I have made the suggestion, that if a group does plan to publicly protest, I think having 3 talking points is good along with 3 action items people can take.
